FOR US, IT’S ABOUT THE “AH-HA” MOMENTS.
Your success is our success.
We measure our team’s success in ah-ha moments, lives changed, and smashed personal records, not in letters after our name.
OPEX Baltimore realizes that training and education play a big part in providing our clients with the most highly educated and experienced coaching staff in the area.
We feel that continuing to grow in this craft involves learning from the best minds in the business, and we put our money where our mouth is by sending our coaches to several seminars each year. These seminars range from lifting technique to programming, life-coaching to nutrition, and we feel each and every one has helped us become the best coaches we can be.
But learning doesn’t only take place in the classroom! At OPEX Baltimore, your coach is a professional and each of us has years of daily coaching experience under our belt. Feel free to hop over to our coaching bios to learn what makes us tick.
Sean is the Owner and Director of Operations at OPEX Baltimore. Sean is a devoted husband, a new father, and a lifelong athlete. Sean has been in the trenches coaching athletes since his collegiate rowing days. His love of helping others to refine technique for efficiency and effectiveness started when he coached for several local high school rowing teams in 2002 — eventually going on to coach two National Championship Collegiate Division 1 boats at St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. That pursuit of technical efficiency he valued in rowing has carried him to coach and compete in Crossfit, Weightlifting, Powerlifting and Endurance racing in the late 2000s through to present day.
Sean’s passion is helping others find their place in the world of fitness, through refining and applying various frameworks focused on: Fitness Training, Nutrition, and Lifestyle. He also continues to enjoy exploring his own fitness, finding new ways to challenge himself as he transitions to a Master’s Athlete.
Sean has completed all OPEX CCP Level 1 Courses, is a Crossfit Level 1 Trainer, a USAW Level 1 Sport Performance Coach, USA Track and Field Level 1 Coach, and has completed: Crossfit Gymnastics, Mobility, Endurance, and Mark Rippetoe’s Starting Strength Seminar.

My typical clients are looking for someone to help them find their way in fitness, and haven’t found it in the empty promises of traditional spin, Crossfit, bootcamp classes, juice cleanses and fad diets.
Success for my clients is finding the right mix of fitness, nutrition and lifestyle practices that support their goals outside of the gym!

Andrew Vassallo has always had the drive to better himself through fitness. Andrew, a native of Philadelphia, moved to Baltimore in 2012 with his wife Kaeley to pursue their teaching careers. That same year, looking for a medium to further develop himself as an athlete, Andrew joined OPEX Baltimore. Immediately he fell in love with the supporting coaches and the motivation he found within to continue to grow and push himself day in and day out.
As a teacher, Andrew has always had a passion for helping others grow as well, so after three years in the sport of fitness, he enrolled in the OPEX Baltimore Instructor Training Program with the goal of becoming a member of the coaching staff. He succeeded with flying colors, and is a welcome addition to our team. Andrew currently holds his CrossFit Level 1 certification and continues to look for ways to learn and grow as a coach, athlete, and as a person.

THE STORY OF OPEX BALTIMORE
We weren’t always in a 6400sq ft fully equipped training sanctuary. We started in a park…
Sean McCullagh has been immersed in the fitness industry for the past 15 years. McCullagh recently took full ownership of what used to be called South Baltimore Strength & Conditioning and has transformed his fitness business to a structure that he believes will truly change people’s lives. His passion for helping people achieve their Personalized Fitness goals has taken several different forms. He started as a fitness class trainer and then owner for local a local Crossfit gym called South Baltimore Crossfit. Unfortunately, he realized that the one-size fits all workouts that he was giving to his clients weren’t delivering them long-term results. In fact, the templated workouts were burning his clients out because they were working out intensely every day. Their bodies needed a better plan. McCullagh decided to evolve his business into what he believes is the most effective way to help people live their largest lives, so he sought out the leaders in Personalized Fitness, OPEX. .
McCullagh and OPEX Baltimore deliver professional coaching to every client through an individually designed fitness plan. . Whereas most personal trainers only give their clients a workout, OPEX assesses each client’s physical movement on an ongoing basis and provides them nutrition strategies for healthy living in a one to one monthly consult. Clients have freedom to come to the gym and complete their workout at a time that’s convenient for them, and while their personal coach might not be with them that day on the floor, a member of the OPEX coaching team will be to ensure proper form, safety, and fun. Personalized Fitness through OPEX is the best of both personal training and group training, allowing every client the support of a coach but also the fun of a community environment.
We know that in order to help you achieve your fitness goals we need to provide support in 3 main areas: exercise, nutrition and lifestyle. The consult with your coach is the first step in the process of getting to know you, and showing you how we can help.
